FAQ & design guide

Everything you need to know before you upload, plus tips for designing parts that print well first time.

Ordering & files

What file types can I upload?

STL files get an instant price. We also accept OBJ, 3MF, STEP and STP. These are quoted by hand, usually within one business day. If you only have a sketch or photo, use design assistance.

Is the instant price final?

It’s an estimate based on your model’s volume and surface area. We check every file by hand and email you a confirmed price before printing. Nothing is charged until you approve it, and in most cases the final price matches the estimate.

How do I pay?

Once you approve the confirmed quote, we send you a secure Shopify checkout link where you can pay by card or any other method Shopify offers. Printing starts once payment is received.

How long does it take?

Standard turnaround is 3–5 business days from approval. Express (1–2 business days) is available for an extra charge. Large or multi-part jobs may take longer, and we’ll let you know upfront.

My file is in inches or the size looks wrong

STL files don’t store units, so we assume millimetres. If your model looks tiny or huge, change File units on the quote page to centimetres or inches and the size and price update instantly.

Are my files kept private?

Yes. Your files are only used to quote and print your order. We never share, sell or reprint your designs without permission.

Is there anything you won’t print?

We don’t print weapons or weapon parts, items that infringe someone else’s copyright or trademark, or anything illegal. See our terms.

Pickup & shipping

Do your prices include GST?

WITT Printing isn’t registered for GST at the moment, so no GST is added to your order.

Where do I pick up my order?

We’re in Sydney. Pickup is free and we’ll send the exact address and a time window once your order is ready.

Do you ship Australia-wide?

Yes. We ship with tracked Australia Post to anywhere in Australia, usually arriving in 2–6 business days. Shipping is charged at Australia Post’s rates for your parcel size and postcode, and we add it to your confirmed quote. We don’t currently ship internationally.

What if my part arrives damaged?

Send us a photo within 7 days and we’ll reprint it free of charge.

Design guide

Designing for 3D printing

Follow these guidelines for strong, accurate parts. Our printers use FDM (fused deposition modelling) with a 0.4 mm nozzle.

FeatureRecommendedNotes
Maximum size256 × 256 × 256 mmLarger parts can be split and joined. Ask us.
Wall thickness≥ 1.2 mm1.6 mm or more for functional parts
Thinnest feature≥ 0.8 mmFine pins and text below this may not print
Embossed / engraved text≥ 0.6 mm deep, 8 pt+Bold, sans-serif fonts work best
Dimensional accuracy± 0.2 mmOr ±0.5% on large parts, whichever is greater
Clearance for fitting parts0.2 – 0.4 mmPer side. Use 0.3 mm for snug press fits.
Holes+0.2 mm oversizeSmall holes print slightly undersized
Overhangs≤ 45°Steeper angles need support, which leaves marks
Bridges≤ 20 mmLonger unsupported spans may sag
Layer height0.12 – 0.28 mmFiner layers = smoother finish, longer print

Export a clean STL

Make sure your model is a closed (watertight) solid with no gaps, and export in millimetres at high resolution.

Think about orientation

Parts are strongest along their layers. Tell us how your part will be loaded and we’ll orient it to match.

Not sure? Ask.

We review every file. If something won’t print well, we’ll suggest a fix before we start.
